What are the steps involved with building a pool?

Most people recognize that in order to enjoy a pool in their yard, it requires the services of experienced and skilled professionals. Here are the steps it takes to build an in-ground swimming pool:

Plan & Design

A plan and design is the first step. A designer can help a homeowner decide on the right pool. Does the homeowner want a big pool for family and friends? Or simply a lap pool for morning exercise? What is the shape of the pool? Will it have a spa? Will it be on more than one level with a cascading waterfall? Is there going to be a fire pit, an outdoor kitchen, and how will the yard get shade? As you can tell, there are a lot of decisions to be made before a pool can be built.

Digging, Plumbing & Electrical

Once the blueprints and plan is in place, it is time to dig the hole in the ground. The next step is to add rebar to reinforce the bottom and the sides of the pool. After this, the plumbing is installed and an electrician will wire the pool for lights and other features. These steps all require licensed professionals.

Form & Surface

The next step is to give the pool its form and shell. A shell can be made of fiberglass, vinyl or poured concrete. Concrete is the strongest material. It is also more expensive than the other choices, but lasts longer and is ideal for large pools. Then the pool needs its surface. It can be plaster, but Pebble Tec® has become increasingly more popular in the last couple of decades due to its longevity.

Water & Chemicals

Next, the pool is filled with water. The pool is usually filled with water from the garden hose. It can also be filled from a water truck. Once it is filled, the water will need chemicals to kill algae and microorganisms and make sure the water is sparkling clean. Once the chemicals are applied, it will take a little some time before the pool is ready to use.
