Can I hide the pool pump and equipment in my yard?

While very necessary, the pool pump and equipment is not always the most aesthetically pleasing part of owning a pool. However, by reading below, we have some suggestions on how you can hide them in your yard.

Use Plants

Using plants to hide the pump is probably the first idea that comes into a pool owner’s head. However, not every plant is appropriate. Thorny plants should not be used, so no rosebushes. Other plants to avoid are those with invasive roots. These plants can actually damage the plumbing that leads to the pool. Shrubs and trees that drop leaves, nuts, fruit and spent flower are also inadvisable. The best plants are evergreens that are not too tall and do not drop needles copiously and tallish, noninvasive grasses.

Enclosures

Enclosures are simple and inexpensive ways to hide the pump and its accoutrements. It can be a simple, lidded box built around the equipment. The style and color can match that of the fencing around the perimeter of the yard or some area of the garden.

The equipment can also be hidden in a shed, which is attached to the house or other structure and has a sloping roof. These sheds can be made of wood, glass, vinyl or even concrete or stone. However, it is important that any enclose is well-ventilated.

Walls, Gates or Privacy Screens

Another way to hide the pool pump is to use walls, gates, or even a privacy screen. Walls and gates of course can block the equipment and while longer hoses are necessary the future your equipment is placed from your pool, it is possible. Another option is a privacy screen. These are inexpensive and are often made of vinyl. Vinyl screens resist fading by the sun’s ultraviolet rays and are weatherproof. They can easily be washed by the garden hose and be made to resemble real wood.
